Woven cedar root and cherry bark
Description
Detail view : Basket made of woven cedar bark . A strap is attached so the basket can be worn over the shoulder when fishing . There is a hole in the top of the hinged lid to insert caught fish . The creel is decoratively embellished using a method called imbrication , where strips of naturally dyed cedar , cherry bark , or grass , are woven over the stitches of the basket to form a repetitive beading pattern of natural red and black color .
Notes
Used when fishing; worn over the shoulder. Fish are inserted through the hole on the top and held in place by a small strap. Designed to function as an evaporative cooler when lined with moss and dipped into water to keep the catch chilled.
