This digital collection is comprised of 50 international postage stamps selected from the collection of Alexandra Bosurgi. When Alexandra purchased the stamp collection book in 2006 in a charity shop in London, England, it already contained a variety of international stamps dating back to 1937. The previous owner and the provenance of the collection is unknown. Alexandra has since contributed more contemporary stamps to the book.
Thomas Pynchon once described a stamp collection as "thousands of coloured windows into time and space" (The Crying of Lot 49). Our aim for this collection is to provide viewers with a selection of stamps that offer glimpses into international histories of art, culture, travel, communication, and national identity. It contains stamps from 10 different countries and spans 70 years.
This collection was digitized by Chloe Riley and Cassidy Owen in March, 2015.
