About this collection

The University of Calgary Department of Archaeology Faunal Specimens Comparative Collection is a research collection containing several thousand faunal specimens used in the identification of the species and processes associated with many recovered archaeological materials.  From the minute carpal bones of a least weasel to the massive cranium of a plains bison, this collection includes materials of a wide variety of types, shapes, and sizes. The collection is not limited to only mammalian specimens, however, and includes a wide variety of birds, fish, reptiles, and mammals, both extinct and extant from around the globe.
