Emily Carr University Architectural History Digital Collection

About this collection

Emily Carr University of Art + Design has been an important part of Vancouver’s art community since its founding in 1925 as the Vancouver School of Decorative and Applied Arts. To this day, it is the sole institution in British Columbia focusing specifically on art, design, and media education. Emily Carr University’s history from its existence as an art school (1925), to being a provincial institute (1980), and to becoming a university (2008) can be traced through its architectural heritage – spaces and places it occupied. Due to this spatial significance, this digital collection of the institution’s architectural history - based on the photographs retrieved from the Emily Carr University of Art + Design archive and supplemented with a number of more recent photographs - has been created.
