Welcome to The Cultch at 40 Years!
The Vancouver East Cultural Centre, affectionately named “The Cultch” by its patrons, is turning 40 in 2013!
The Cultch has been an East Vancouver institution since 1973 and it is one of Vancouver's finest cultural treasures. We have been dedicated to presenting contemporary theatre, dance and music, and our warmth and dedication to the arts have earned its place in the heart of the Vancouver community.
To celebrate this very special anniversary, The Cultch has put together this special collection of archival materials from its first few years. We have made this material available online for the very first time to celebrate our turning 40!
The materials on this site were specially chosen, as they concentrate on the early years of The Cultch. The photographs and textual materials show what our building was like when we bought it and renovated it, what our founder, workers and volunteers looked like in 1973/4 and some of the performance events that were held at The Cultch.
There are two ways to look at our archival materials. You can either browse through them or you can search for something specific.
Please enjoy the materials we have put online, and if you know more about a particular item or if the items spark memories and you want to share them, please leave us a note in the comments area at the bottom of each item's page.
If you would like to download any of these materials, we would be happy to help. Just click on the Contact The Archivist link at the top or bottom of the page and tell us which image you are interested in downloading. We will send more information to you about that process.
