About The Collection

To celebrate this very special anniversary, The Cultch has put together this special collection of archival materials from its first few years. We have made this material available online for the very first time to celebrate our turning 40!

The materials in this collection consist of photographs and textual materials. The subjects include: the exterior and interior of the original building and the renovations done to it in 1973, the founders, volunteers and workers who were with The Cultch in the first two years of it, invitations and calendars from the opening year of The Cultch and different performances and artists that performed at The Cultch in the early years.

The collection was put together and processed by Lisa Snider, the Digital Archivist Consultant at The Cultch.

The materials were all scanned using the same settings. The master archival copies were made first and they were all scanned at 600 PPI, 16 bits per channel (RGB or Greyscale) and were saved as uncompressed TIFFs. Then access copies were made and they were all 200 ppi, minimum 600 pixel width and 8 bits per channel(RGB or Greyscale) and were saved as uncompressed JPEGs. These access copies are used on this website.

These images were subject to minimal manipulation. They were cropped and resized. If the image was resized, then a 20% unsharp mask was used to make the image sharp again. These were the only changes made to the image files.
